MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The Drew University women's tennis team moved into the semifinals of the Landmark Conference Championships with a 5-2 victory over Susquehanna University in the tournament quarterfinals Saturday afternoon at Saint Elizabeth University.
The fourth-seeded Rangers (4-2) will now visit top-seeded Moravian College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Drew opened the day by winning two of three doubles matches versus the fifth-seeded River Hawks to assume a 2-1 lead. Sophomore
Sanne Bloemendaal and freshman
Melina Christodoulou won 8-1 at No. 1 while sophomore
Danielle DelRosso and junior
Marwa Elessawy claimed an 8-4 decision at No. 2.
The Rangers pushed their lead to 4-1 following straight-set victories from Bloemendaal at No 2. (6-1, 6-2) and DelRosso at No. 4 (6-3, 6-1). After a Susquehanna victory at No. 6, junior
Kate Gangi clinched it with her 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 triumph at fifth singles.
Drew will be making its second appearance in the Landmark Conference semifinal round and its first since 2010, when it defeated Susquehanna 8-1 before winning the conference title.
