Ranger Harriers Named Academic All-District

CSC Academic All-District Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Team

MADISON, N.J. –  Three Rangers have been named to the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-District Women's Cross Country/Track & Field Team, it was announced on Wednesday.
 
Seniors Virginia Gaylord, Carly Orent, and Sam Villanueva were honored for the Rangers.
 
The 2023 Academic All-District® Cross Country/Track & Field Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 22.
 
To be nominated for the CSC Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve who has appeared in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
 
Gaylord, a chemistry major, is coming off a season in which she was one of the team's top-two finishers in all eight of her races. She was the top Ranger at both the Rowan Invitational and the Manhattan Invitational, where she clocked a season-best time (for 6,000 meters) of 25:31. She competed in both of Drew's championship meets, placing 45th among 78 runners at the Landmark Conference Championships and 87th in a field of 170 at the NCAA Division III Metro Region Championships.
 
Throughout her two-year career at Drew, Gaylord has been one of the team's top-three runners in all 15 of her races and has posted collegiate-bests of 25:26 for 6K and 20:44 for 5K. She will return for one more season for the Rangers.
 
A psychology major, Orent finished among Drew's top-three finishers in every race this season and was the team's No. 1 runner four times, including both championships races. The team MVP, Orent placed 35th at the Landmark Conference Championships and was 69th at the NCAA Metro Regional. Orent was also first among the Rangers at both the Bryn Mawr Invitational and DeSales Invitational, where he was time at a season-best 25:34.
 
For her career, Orent was one of the team's top-three runners in all 27 of her races. She finished with collegiate-best times of 25:19 for 6K and 21:18 for 5K.
 
Villanueva, a business major, competed in all eight meets for the Rangers this past season. She ran a season-best time of 31:02 at the NCAA Metro Region Championships, placing 135th, and was also 76th at the Landmark Conference Championships.
 
A four-year team member, Villanueva raced in each of Drew's 25 meets throughout her career. She recorded top times of 27:36 for 6K and 22:59 for 5K. She posted her top championship finishes in 2021, placing 66th at the conference meet and 128th at regionals.
