LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The Drew University women's cross country team registered its top finish in team history at an NCAA regional meet on Saturday, placing 10th at the Metro Region Championships, hosted by Rowan University at Gloucester County DREAM Park.
The Rangers finished with a team score of 303 and beat out 15 teams, including two that entered the meet regionally ranked – No. 9 Montclair State, which finished 11th (307), and No. 10 Muhlenberg, which placed 13th (333).
Drew's previous program-best regional finish occurred last year, when the Rangers placed 17th.
Leading the way for Drew was junior
Skyler McGuire, who finished 43rd out of 194 runners with a time 23 minutes, 24 seconds for the 6,000-meter course. She clocked a personal record (PR) while posting the highest finish by a Ranger at an NCAA regional since Jennifer Van Wingerden C'13 placed 11th in 2012.
Senior
Kate Rice was not far behind, crossing the finish line 47th in 23:32. She was followed by sophomore
April Kusnier, who came in 66th in a PR of 24:18.
Completing the team scoring – and crossing the line within a second of one another – were junior
Sarah Hattan, who took 84th in 24:49, and sophomore
Perri Rubin, who was 88th in 24:50 – a PR by over a minute.
Finishing as displacers were sophomore
Isabella Fortunato, who placed 98th in 25:11, and junior
Sophia Kim, who was 117th in 25:59.
Moravian's Tara Smurla won the race in 21:11 while Swarthmore claimed the team title.
