CLARK, N.J. – Senior
Kate Rice and junior
Skyler McGuire each earned all-conference honors to lead the Drew University women's cross country team at the Landmark Conference Championships, hosted by Drew University at Oak Ridge Park on Saturday.
As a team, the Rangers placed sixth out of nine schools that posted a team score. Moravian University captured the team title.
The championship was hosted by Drew and held in the state of New Jersey for the first time in the 18-year history of the conference.
On a brisk and windy day, Rice finished 15th with a time of 23 minutes, 43 seconds for the 6,000-meter course. McGuire added an 18th-place showing, crossing the finish line in 24:08 – just nine seconds shy of her personal record (PR) set two weeks earlier.
By virtue of their 15th through 19th-place finishes, Rice and McGuire were recognized with All-Landmark Conference Honorable Mention status. They become the first members of the Drew women's cross country team to earn a spot on the all-conference team since
Jennifer Van Wingerden C'13 won the individual title to earn first-team all-conference status in 2012.
Four Rangers did race to a PR, including sophomores
April Kusnier, who placed 27th in 24:30, and
Isabella Fortunato, who took 38th in 24:57. Junior
Sophia Kim completed Drew's team scoring, taking 53rd with a PR of 25:42.
Sophomore
Perri Rubin also turned in a PR, placing 56th in 26:04, while junior
Sarah Hattan came in 58th in 26:10.
Tara Smurla of Moravian was the individual champion, finishing in 21:26.
