TOWSON, Md. – Junior Kate Rice has been selected as the Landmark Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week.

Rice turned in an outstanding performance at the NJIT Highlander XC Challenge this past Saturday, finishing second out of 219 runners to lead the Rangers to a fifth-place finish among 31 teams. She was timed at 18 minutes, 25 seconds for the 5,000-meter course while finishing just eight seconds behind race winner Lindsay Cook of Army. In addition, she improved upon her own school record for the fastest cross country 5K, slicing 16 seconds off her mark set earlier this season. Rice helped lead the Rangers to the top finish among 13 Division III schools.

For the season, Rice has finished in the top-five in four of her five races thus far. A former member of the Drew University women's soccer team, she is competing in her first season of cross country after capturing All-Region honors in the 5,000 meters during Drew's inaugural season of track & field last year.

The Rangers continue their season on Saturday, when they compete at the Inter-Regional Border Battle, hosted by Rowan University at Gloucester County Dream Park in Logan Township, N.J.
