Men’s Fencing Finishes 3-2 at MACFA Event

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Drew University men's fencing team went 3-2 at a MACFA "A versus B" group event on Sunday at Stevens Institute of Technology.
 
The Rangers, ranked No. 6 in the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) Division III preseason poll, opened the day with three consecutive wins over their Group B counterparts, topping Hunter College (26-1), Yeshiva University (25-2), and Army (14-13). Drew concluded the day with losses to NJIT (20-7), ranked No. 15 in the USFCA overall preseason poll, and Stevens (18-9), ranked No. 5 in the USFCA DIII poll.
 
The foil squad turned in the top showing among Drew's weapon groups, running the table for a 5-0 showing. The unit defeated Hunter (9-0), Yeshiva (9-0), Army (8-1), NJIT (5-4), and Stevens (5-4) while accumulating an aggregate individual record of 36-9.
 
Junior Henri Degremont led the way individually for foil with a tremendous 12-1 effort that included 3-0 marks versus Hunter, Yeshiva, and Stevens and a 2-1 effort against NJIT.
 
Seniors Aidan DeSola and Tristan Santulli also registered big showings in foil. DeSola finished 9-3 and went 3-0 versus Yeshiva, 2-0 against Hunter, and 2-1 versus NJIT. Santulli recorded a 9-4 mark, including 3-0 performances against both Hunter and Yeshiva. Additionally, freshman Andrew Klyczek went 4-0.
 
Both the epee and sabre squads finished 2-3 on the day for the Rangers. In epee, Drew defeated Hunter (9-0) and Yeshiva (9-0) while battling Stevens to a close 5-4 loss.
 
Individually in epee, junior William Morton finished 9-3 while senior Zack Zukofsky went 8-4. Both finished 3-0 versus Yeshiva and 2-1 against Stevens. In addition, senior Danny Stevens posted a 7-5 record on the day while going 3-0 versus Yeshiva.
 
The sabre team posted an 8-1 win over Hunter and a 7-2 triumph over Yeshiva. Freshman Jason Ahlman and sophomore Logan Kleva each finished 5-6 to lead the unit.
 
The Rangers are now off until Dec. 8, when they travel to Waltham, Mass. for the Brandeis Invitational.
