Men’s Fencing Opens Season With Drew Invitational

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's fencing team officially opened its 2024-25 season on Sunday at the Drew Invitational, held inside the Simon Forum.
 
The Rangers, ranked No. 6 in the USFCA Division III Preseason Poll, earned an 18-9 victory over Wheaton (Mass.) College but lost to Wagner (17-10), NJIT (17-10), LIU (14-13), No. 5 Stevens (18-9), Lafayette (19-8), and Haverford (19-8).
 
Junior William Morton paced the Rangers, finishing 9-6 while leading the epee unit to victories over LIU (7-2), Stevens (5-4), and Wheaton (9-0). Eight different Rangers competed in epee on the day, including senior Zack Zukofsky, who added a 6-5 performance, and junior Gabriel Leone, who went 3-2.
 
The foil squad also earned three wins on the day, topping Wagner (6-3), NJIT (5-4), and Wheaton (5-4). Junior Henri Degremont led the way with a 7-5 record, including a 3-0 showing verus Wagner. Senior Tristan Santulli contributed a 6-6 showing.
 
A 5-4 win over Haverford highlighted the day for the sabre squad, which received an 8-13 performance from freshman Jason Ahlman in his collegiate debut.
 
The Rangers continue their season next Sunday, when they travel to the Vassar Invitational.
