INDIANAPOLIS – Sophomore
Elliot Parker of the Drew University men's golf team has earned an individual bid to compete in the NCAA Division III Championships, it was announced on Monday.
The championships will be held May 14-17 at Boulder Creek Golf Course in Boulder City, Nevada, and will be hosted by UNLV and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
Parker earned one of just six individual selections to the NCAA Division III Championships. The rest of the field is composed of individuals who qualified by virtue of their teams receiving a bid.
Parker becomes the first golfer in Drew program history, now in its seventh season, to earn an individual berth at the NCAA Championships. Three teams – the women's squad in 2019 and 2022 and the men's squad in 2022 – have competed at the national tournament after receiving an automatic berth by virtue of winning the Landmark Conference title.
Last weekend, Parker captured medalist honors at the Landmark Conference Championships, earning Landmark Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-Landmark Conference honors. He fired a 5-under-par 139 (67-72), marking the second-lowest 36-hole score of his career, and won by four strokes. For the season, Parker has logged an average of 71.1 and has won five of his 10 events. He also broke the top-five eight times and cracked the top-10 in all but one of his events. He was ranked 30th in the latest NCAA Division III Clippd rankings.
Forty-three teams and six individuals not on one of those teams were selected to participate in the championships. The team and individual champions will be determined after 72 holes of play or the conclusion of the last fully completed round and after 36 holes of competition, the field will be cut to the top 18 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams.
A total of 221 participants will compete at the 2024 championships. Thirty-four conferences were awarded an automatic qualification for the championships, and one team was selected from Pool B, which consists of independent institutions and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification. The final eight berths were reserved for Pool C, which are institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not the conference champion and any remaining Pool B teams.
