Men’s Golf Opens Season With Split Squad

LEWISBURG, Pa. and BETHELEHEM, Pa. – The Drew University men's golf team opened its 2024-25 season at two different locations on Sunday and Monday.
 
The primary squad competed at The Gauntlet, a two-day, 36-hole event at the Bucknell Golf Club. The Rangers shot a 589 (292-297) and placed sixth in a highly-competitive field of 14 teams.
 
In addition, a "B" team competed on Monday at Moravian University's Weyhill Classic at Saucon Valley Country Club, where the Rangers shot a 320 and placed third among 12 teams.
 
Leading the way for the "A" squad was junior Elliot Parker, who tied for 16th in a field of 75. After opening with a 74 on Sunday, he parred two holes and fired a 72 on Monday to finish with a 6-over-par 146.
 
Senior Mike Ford was Drew's second-best finisher, tying for 19th with a 147. He fired four holes on Monday.
 
Rounding out the team scoring for the Rangers were senior Myles Cherry, who tied for 25th with a 148 (71-77), and sophomore Eric Castner, who tied for 35th with a 150 (77-73). Cherry notched three birdies on Monday while Castner manged two birdies.
 
Sophomore Avery Cohen also competed and tied for 51st with a 155 (75-80).
 
Gettysburg College won the team title with a 568 (289-279) while Collin McMahon-Shea of Dickinson College claimed medalist honors.
 
At Moravian, sophomore Thomas Hurley, junior Liam Larkin, and sophomore Ryan Ricci each shot an 8-over 79 to lead the way. Junior Max Conklin was also in action and carded an 83 while freshman Brian Cotter (88) was also in action. Conklin and Cotter led the Rangers for the day with three birdies each.
 
Led by medalist Jack Novis (70), Scranton captured the team title with a 296.
 
The Rangers continue their season next Monday, when the "B" team competes at the FDU Florham Invitational at Mendham Golf & Tennis Club in Mendham, N.J.
