NEWARK, N.J. – Senior
Kate Rice placed second out of 109 runners and the Drew University women's cross country squad captured the team title in the "Open" race of the NJIT Invitational on Saturday at Branch Brook Park.
The Rangers finished with a team score of 27 to finish ahead of 10 other colleges and one club team. Delaware TC took second with 39 points while Albany College of Pharmacy was third with 141 points.
Six of Drew's eight competitors raced to a personal record (PR) for the 5,000-meter racing distance while placing its top-four runners in the top-10.
Rice cruised the 5,000-meter course in 18 minutes, 54 seconds to finish just seven seconds behind Hannah Phillips of the United States Military Academy Preparatory School.
Also cracking the top-10 were junior
Skyler McGuire (sixth, 20:16), sophomore
Perri Rubin (seventh, 20:23), and sophomore
April Kusnier (ninth, 20:40). Both McGuire and Rubin registered PRs.
Rounding out the team score was sophomore
Isabella Fortunato, who clocked a PR of 20:57.
Also competing were senior
Emily Camlet (14th, 21:06), junior
Sophia Kim (18th, 21:28), and sophomore
Bella Polizzi (22nd, 21:43), all of whom recorded PRs.
The Rangers pick up their schedule on Thursday, Oct. 23 with the Battle of Madison Avenue Tri-Meet with FDU-Florham and Saint Elizabeth University, held at the Giralda Farms Preserve.
