CSC Academic All-District Men's Soccer Teams
MADISON, N.J. – Senior midfielders
James Cahill and
Chris Chyzowych of the Drew University men's soccer team have been recognized for their performance on the field and in the classroom with their selections to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.
Cahill earned his third consecutive CSC Academic All-District award while Chyzowych was recognized for the first time.
Additionally, Cahill was chosen as a CSC Academic All-America finalist and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced Dec. 16.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — for each gender.
To be nominated for the CSC Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve who has appeared in at least 90 percent of the team's games or started 66 percent of the team's contests.
Chyzowych, a business major and marketing minor, played in 19 games and made five starts during his first season with the Rangers after transferring to The Forest this past fall. He appeared in all three of Drew's Landmark Conference Championship tournament games, helping the No. 5-seeded Rangers to a 2-0 win at No. 4 seed Goucher in the first round and a 5-4 penalty-kick shootout victory at top-seeded, No. 17-ranked, and undefeated University of Scranton in the semifinals after the two sides tied 1-1. Chyzowych also started in the Landmark Conference championship match at No. 2 seed Catholic, which the Cardinals captured 1-0 on a late goal.
A finance major and a double minor in accounting and economics, Cahill was named to the All-Landmark Conference First Team this past season after finishing as the team's second-leading scorer. Starting all 20 games, he posted 10 points on three goals and four assists. In his biggest goal of the season, he struck on a penalty kick in the fifth minute of Drew's postseason win at Goucher, and he also converted the second PK in the shootout victory at Scranton. In addition, Cahill recorded one goal and one assist in a 4-3 win over Immaculata University, scored a goal in a 2-0 victory over DeSales University, and provided an assist on the game-winning goal in a 2-1 Landmark Conference victory over Juniata College.
The Rangers finished the season with an 11-6-3- overall record and a 4-4-1 mark in the Landmark Conference while making the team's fourth appearance in the Landmark Conference final.
