GENEVA, Ohio – Sophomore Sage Hendershot finished eighth in the long jump at the NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships to capture First Team All-America honors Thursday evening at the SPIRE Academy.

Competing in her second national championship, Hendershot leaped 5.77 meters (18-11 1/4) on her fourth jump of the night. She is now a two-time All-American in the long jump after taking second-team honors with her 16th-place finish during the indoor season this past March.

After opening with a jump of 5.20 meters (17- 3/4), Hendershot closed the night by hitting at least 5.45 meters (17-10 3/4) on each of her last five attempts, including four jumps over 18 feet.

A total of 22 jumpers competed in the event, starting with a pair of preliminary rounds consisting of 11 athletes apiece. Only the top nine jumpers would advance to the final.

Hendershot competed in the first preliminary round, and her third and final jump of 5.75 meters (18-10 1/2) vaulted her into second place overall. She dropped to eighth place after the completion of the second round, but she reached the final to guarantee a top-nine finish. However, she would need to place among the top-eight to earn First-Team All-America honors and a spot on the awards podium.

Hendershot took care of business with her first jump in the final, clearing 5.77 meters to move into seventh place. She closed out the night with jumps of 5.59 meters (18-4 1/4) and 5.45 meters (17-10 3/4) and remained in seventh until Paulina Tinajero of Elmhurst jumped 5.77 meters on her final attempt. Hendershot and Tinajero finished in a tie, but Tinajero was awarded seventh due to having a better second-best jump (she posted two jumps of 5.77 meters; Hendershot's second-best jump was 5.75 meters).

Emma Seipel of Loras won the event with a mark of 6.15 meters (20-2 1/4) and was followed by Aurielle of Brunner of Chatham (6.07m/19-11), Annabelle Lanik of Trinity (Texas) (5.99m/19-8), Chloe Hein of Centre (5.95m/19-6 1/4), Elysse Cumberland of Tufts (5.81m/19- 3/4), and Megan Hunt of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (5.81m/19- 3/4).

Hendershot's night closed out an incredible sophomore campaign that included two trips to the NCAA Championships, two Landmark Conference long jump titles (one indoor, one outdoor), and two Landmark Conference long jump records (5.73m/18-9 3/4 – indoor; 5.94m/19-6 – outdoor).
