Swimming & Diving to Compete at Landmark Conference Championships

MADISON, N.J. – Team and individual titles will be on the line when the Drew University men's and women's swimming & diving teams travel to the Mangione Aquatic Center at Loyola University in Baltimore for the Landmark Conference Championships from Thursday through Saturday.

Led by 11th-year Head Coach Rich Munson, the Rangers have posted a number of outstanding showings throughout the season. On the men's side, Drew has recorded the top time in 12 events, including all five relays, while the women's team is seeded among the top-three in seven individual events and is second in a pair of relays. The Ranger men also own the top three seeds in three different events – the 50-freestyle, 100-freestyle, and 100-breaststroke.
 
The men's team is looking to improve upon its third-place finish at last year's championship, where it also won 13 events – six more than any other team.

This year, the Rangers are looking to build off the momentum of a dual-meet victory over the University of Scranton in its regular-season finale back on Jan. 24 and a strong performance at the Ranger Invitational on Dec. 5-6, when they set four school records and two Landmark Conference records.
 
Individually, senior Nicholas Heinio-Widell will lead the way once again as the two-time defending Landmark Conferece Swimmer of the Year. He has won all seven of his events over each of his first two championships and will enter this year's meet seeded first  This year, Heinio-Widell enters the championship seeded first in three individual events – the 50-freestyle, 100-freestyle, and 100-butterfly.
 
Four other Rangers will also compete as No. 1 seeds – senior Brendan Burkett in the 200-freestyle, sophomore Hunor Harsanyi in the 200-IM, sophomore Thiago Silva – last year's Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year – in the 100-breaststroke, and junior Kyle Talerico in the 200-butterfly.
 
Burkett is also seeded second in three events – the 50-freestyle, 100-freestyle, and 100-backstroke. Harsanyi is seeded in both the 100- and 200-breaststroke, as is junior Liam Gregory in the 1650-freestyle, freshman Marcell Hudak in the 200-butterfly, and Talerico in the 100-butterfly.
 
Entering the meet as No. 3 seeds are Gregory in the 500-freestyle, Hudak in the 400-IM, senior Ricky Kilichowski in the 200-backstroke, Silva in the 50- and 100-freestyle, and senior Gabe Spivak in the 100- and 200-breaststroke.
 
For the women's team, which also finished third at last year's championship, sophomore Kyra Gorman enters the meet as the top seed in the 100-freestyle. Last year's Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year, she is also the No. 2 seed in both the 50- and 200-free.
 
Freshman Adriana Scanga enters the meet seeded second in the 100-butterfly and third in the 200-butterfly while senior Ece Onatca will also provide the Rangers with a top-three seed, as she is third in both the 100- and 200-backstroke.
 
Drew is also seeded second in both medley relays on the women's side and are third in all three freestyle relays.
