Roadrunners Salvage Tie in Double OT Thriller

Roadrunners Salvage Tie in Double OT Thriller

Box Score

MADISON, N.J. (October 6, 2010) - The matchup between two of the top teams in the region did not disapoint tonight at Ranger Stadium. A total of 47 shots, six goals, three red cards, three yellow cards and a power outage gave fans all they could handle.

The nearly three hour contest saw a total of three lead changes. Ramapo (7-2-3) got on the scoreboard first with a goal from the nation's leading scorer, Rob Santaniello. Teammate Jonathan Yazo found Santaniello who placed the ball perfectly in the left corner of the net.

Drew (9-1-1) would bounce back when they were awarded two penalty kicks after two Ramapo hand balls in the box. Coach Lenny Armuth selected senior
Adrian Kawuba (Watertown, Mass./Lexington Christian Academy) to take both penalty shots in which he converted to give the Rangers their first lead of the night at the 20:07 mark. Kawuba now has cashed in on each of his three career penalty shots. His only other opportunity came earlier this season and was the gamewinner against rival FDU.

On the second penalty shot Ramapo defender Dale Santiago was given a red card for intentionally swatting at a ball in the box. The Roadrunners would get used to playing a man down and even scored two of their three goals at least one man down.

Ramapo would bounce back 17 minutes later after the second penalty kick with a goal from Yazo, who beat a charging
Jeff Rogers (Eldensburg, Md./Century) to the far left post. The goal would tie the game for the second time and both teams would go into the half notched at two.

The Rangers took advantage of the man advantage early but not before the game was delayed due to a power outage about a minute into the second half. After a brief delay the lights came back on and the Drew offense came out firing. Senior
Matthew Greenberg (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills) connected on a shot just outside top of the 18 and past the Rampo keeper 1:36 into the second half for his fourth goal of the fall.

Drew took a total of 20 shots in the second half but could not get close enough to put the game out of reach. After a scuffle on the Ramapo defensive end at in the 74th minute, referees issued two red cards. One was given to midfielder Zach Theinert and the other to the Ramapo Head Coach.

The cards would put Drew up two men over the final 36 minutes of play but did not affect the Roadrunner offense. At the 83:33 mark it was Yazo again who found Joe Kane on the far left sideline to tie the game at three. Kane got a step on the Ranger defense forcing Rogers to charge once again but Kane found an opening for the equalizer. Yazo had a hand in all three goals for the Roadrunners and finished with four points on the evening.

Drew woud attempt five more shots after the game was tied back up with three of them landing on net.

Drew will continue Landmark Conference play this Saturday when they travel to Scranton for the 3:30 tilt.
