Weiss Leads Rangers in Foil
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (January 22, 2011) - The men picked up an overall win against NJIT and were unbeaten in the foil against all five of their opponents on Saturday's Philadelphia Invitational at the University of Pennsylvania.
The Rangers were able to pull out a 17-10 victory over NJIT in their only overall win of the day. After falling 6-3 in the Sabre, Drew stormed back and registerd an 8-1 win in the foil and a 6-3 victory in the epee.
After falling behind 8-1 in the Sabre against Johns Hopkins, Drew would take an 8-1 victory in the foil before falling 6-3 in the Epee. The Blue Jays would edge the Rangers 15-12. In the three other matches on the day, Drew would be on the short end, dropping matches to Penn, Haverford, Duke and North Carolina.
Freshman
James Weiss (Somers, N.Y./Somers) lost only one draw, going 17-1 in men's foil on the day.
Fencing will stay in state and travel to Princeton next Saturday for the Princeton/Penn State Invitational.
