HUNTINGDON, Pa. (October 22, 2011) – The Rangers won their second overtime game of the season with a 2-1 victory over Landmark foe, Juniata (5-7-1, 1-5 Landmark) earlier this afternoon. Drew (13-2, 4-1 Landmark) earned their fifth Landmark playoff berth in as many years with the win.
The Rangers led for more than 60 minutes in the contest thanks to the fifth goal of the season by
Matthew Gragnano (Hazlet, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) four minutes into the game. Sophomore
Ricardo Castro (Mexicali, Mexico/Vincent Memorial) assisted on the lone first half goal to record his fourth point in his last five games.
After only three first half shots compared to the Rangers seven in the first half, the Eagles finally tied the game up in the 64
th minute when Luke Waddell found David Grim for the equalizer. The goal was the first allowed by the Ranger defense since October 9
th when Goucher notched a late first half goal in a 3-1 win at Ranger Stadium.
Drew went on to attempt 15 second half shots, which none were able to find the back of the net before regulation ended. Eagle goalkeeper Erza Cassel stopped 11 Ranger shots on net, including eight in the second half.
It didn't take the Rangers long in overtime to ensure their fourth conference win of the season as they scored on just their second attempt of the extra frame. Sophomore
Will Sanchez (Bound Brook, N.J./Bound Brook) connected with forward
Sam Nepveux (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) for the junior's second game-winner of the week, giving the Rangers a much needed road win.
The Rangers will be on the road for their final two games of the season beginning on Wednesday when they travel to SUNY-New Paltz for a 3:00 p.m. bout with the Hawks. The Rangers close the season on the road against Catholic with the first seed of Landmark playoffs on the line next Saturday in Washington, D.C..
