PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (January 22, 2011) – The Rangers bolstered their 2011-12 record by going 3-2 at this weekend's Philadelphia Invitational hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. The Rangers went on to defeat the University of North Carolina, The New Jersey Institute of Technology and Haverford College to improve to 8-3 on the season.
The closest bout of the day came against Haverford in which the Rangers edged the Fords, 14-13. They went on to defeat UNC, 18-9 and NJIT, 17-10. Drew was bested by Sacred Heart University, 23-4 and later by Duke University, 22-5.
Foil once again served as the Rangers strong suit, going 4-1 on the day and are now 10-1 on the year. Sophomore foilist, 
James Weiss (Somers, N.Y./Somers) had a superb day, winning a team-high 12 bouts and losing only three.
Fellow freshman, 
Charlie Dobbins (Durham, N.C./Durham School of the Arts), led the Ranger sabreists with an 8-5 record and now has 18 wins on the season. Captain 
Jacob Hazle Cary (Philadelphia, Pa./Haverford Senior) helped the Rangers narrowly escape the match against Haverford, winning all three of his bouts in a 7-2 win in the sabre.
In the epee, the Rangers struggled, going 1-4 on the afternoon with their only victory coming against NJIT. Juniors 
Dillion Feigenbaum (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and 
Michael Pignataro (Commack, N.Y./Commack) each led the Rangers with five wins on the afternoon.
The Rangers will be back on the strip this weekend when they travel to Penn State on Saturday  for an all day duel with some of the top programs in the region.
