Rangers Stay Unblemished in Conference Play, Bury Gophers

Box Score MADISON, N.J. (October 6, 2012) – The Drew field hockey team improved 9-2 on the season and 3-0 against Landmark Conference opponents after a 7-0 rout of Goucher College (3-7, 0-4 Landmark) this afternoon at Ranger Stadium.

The Rangers offense had seven different players record a goal in the contest and matched their best offensive performance of the season. Drew was dominant in all facets of the game, controlling the ball in the midfield and outshooting the Gophers 36-1.

Drew notched three first half goals including the first just 40 seconds in by Danielle Waleko (Wainscott, N.Y./East Hampton). The Rangers were kept in check until the 25th minute on a goal by senior Sami Calabrese (Dover, N.H./Dover). Freshman Bea Cannavale (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) recorded her conference-leading 11th assist on Calabrese's first goal of the fall.

Before the half ended the Rangers added one more goal to make the score 3-0 after 35 minutes of play. Freshman Amanda Hearney (Shoreham Wading-River, N.Y./Shoreham Wading-River) registered her first collegiate goal with a little less than three minutes to play in the first frame.

The second half was all Rangers as they did not allow a shot defensively. The offense did not skip a beat tacking on four more scores. In a 10-minute span midway through the half, the Rangers received goals from Cannavale, Sarah Charles (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris), Jess Johnson (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Senior) and Taryn Murphy (Wilton, Conn./Portsmouth Abbey School).

Johnson was successful on her third penalty stroke of the season and Charles put home her conference-best 12th goal of the fall. Goalkeepers CC Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) and Sarah Stewart (Shavertown, Pa./Dallas) combined for the Rangers fourth shutout of the year.

The Rangers will be back at home on Wednesday when they take on non-conference foe, King's College at 4:30 p.m.
