PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (January 26, 2013) – The Drew University men's and women's fencing teams competed this weekend at the Philadelphia Invitational this weekend. The men's foil came away with the only two victories on the men's side while the sabre emerged victorious once for the women.
As a team, the Ranger men suffered team losses to the University of Pennsylvania, Duke, Johns Hopkins, The University of North Carolina and Haverford. The Rangers put up nine wins against UNC and Haverford but ultimately fell 18-9 to both squads.
The women were defeated by Fairleigh Dickinson-Teaneck, Cornell, Haverford, The University of North Carolina and Northwestern. The Rangers won a meet high seven bouts in a 20-7 loss to Haverford.
Fencing foil for the first time this season,
Adam Campos (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) led the men's team with seven wins. Fellow foilists,
James Weiss (Somers, N.Y./Somers) and
John Luke Bucuvalas (Conifer, Colo./Conifer) helped the foil team to 2-3 afternoon with six individual wins apiece.
Senior
Melissa Mascarenhas (Linden, N.J./Linden) and
Emilia Domanowski (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) each had five wins to lead the women's team.
The Rangers return to the strip on Saturday, February 2
nd in a tri-meet with Yale and Vassar in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
