Shutout of Scarlet Raiders Gives Rangers 11th Straight Win

Box Score NEWARK, N.J. (October 23, 2013) – The Drew University women's soccer team continued its historic winning streak with a 3-0 win over Rutgers-Newark (5-12-1) this evening. The Rangers scored a goal in each half and two in the second to improve to 13-1 on the season.

Sophomore Alexa Kogan (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro North) scored her first goal of career while Emma Campbell (Cresskill, N.J./Creskill) and Liz Loiodice (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll) scored for the second-straight game.

In the 14th minute of the match Kogan found the back of the net on a header off the corner cross of senior Katie O'Keefe (Shamong, N.J./Senaca).  The assist from O'Keefe was her sixth of the season which ranks third in the Landmark Conference.

Kogan's goal gave the Rangers a 1-0 advantage at the half. The two teams each took five shots with three Ranger strikes landing on net. Freshman Ryan Jackson (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.) got her first career start in net for the Rangers and made two first half saves to keep the Scarlet Raiders off the scoreboard.

The second half turned out to be a completely different story as Drew outshot the Rutgers-Newark, 12-1. Campbell scored in the 68th minute after collecting a loose ball just inside the 18 and beating goalie to lower right corner. Loiodice capped the Ranger scoring in the 78th minute  off an assist from Morgan Zwengler (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial). The assist was the first point of the season for the senior.

Sophomore Sara Nash (Kingston, Wash./Kingston) played the final 45 minutes in net, making one save to preserve the Rangers third shutout of the season.

The Rangers will get back to Landmark Conference play on Saturday in a battle of the unbeatens against Scranton. The Rangers are 4-0 in league play while Scranton is unblemished with a 3-0 conference record. Prior to Saturday's game, Drew will honor its 11 seniors. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Ranger Stadium.
