#18 Field Hockey Tops Susquehanna, Stay Unbeaten

Box Score SELINSGROVE, Pa. (October 5, 2013) – The 18th-ranked Drew University field hockey won its second Landmark Conference game of the season with a 3-1 road victory over Susquehanna (6-6, 0-2 Landmark) this afternoon. The Rangers now sit alone atop the league standings and improve 10-0 on the season.

The Rangers scored the first three goals of the contest, all coming off the stick of three different players. Sophomore Taryn Murphy (Wilton, Conn./Portsmouth Abbey School) was credited with the game-winner in the second half on her first goal of the season.

Sophomore Sam Barcia (Berlin, N.J./Eastern) scored the game's first goal just 1:02 into the game. Classmate Melissa Boyd (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) registered her eighth assist of the season and her 21st of her career on the score. Barcia has now scored in seven-straight games, bringing her season total up to 15.

Both teams were kept off the scoreboard for the remainder of the half, giving the Rangers a 1-0 edge at the break. The Rangers had their chances over the first 35 minutes, firing 16 shots and drawing five corners.

In the second half, Drew converted those chances beginning with Murphy's goal in the 58th minute. After assisting on the second goal of the day, senior Brooke Gagliano (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Twp.) scored her 12th goal of the season on a perfectly executed corner play. Senior Danielle Waleko (Wainscott, N.Y./East Hampton) and Barcia were both credited with an assist on the third goal of the afternoon.

Susquehanna ruined the chances of a Drew shutout, with 1:04 left in the game. Senior Rebecca Marion converted a penalty corner for the Crusaders only goal of the day.

Senior goalkeeper CC Carlini (Amherst, N.H./Bishop Guertin) played all 70 minutes for the Rangers and made five saves. Her counterpart, Margaret Ruth made a game-high 17 stops
The Rangers will be on the road again on Wednesday afternoon when they take on King's College at 4:00 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
