BALTIMORE, Md. (February 10, 2013) – The foil team was a perfect 5-0 at the MACFA A vs. MACFA B meet at Johns Hopkins today. As a team the men's fending team improved their overall record to 8-16 with wins over William & Mary, The University of Virginia and The University of Maryland.
The Rangers topped William & Mary, 18-9, Virginia, 16-11 and Maryland, 16-11. For the second time this season, Drew dropped decisions to Haverford and Johns Hopkins.
Despite the team losses, the foil pulled off 6-3 and 5-4 victories over Haverford and Johns Hopkins respectively.
Lukas Siclare (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) was the top foilist, posting an 11-4 record. Junior
James Weiss (Somers, N.Y./Somers) was 8-1 on the afternoon and
Adam Campos (Mendham Twp., N.J./West Morris Mendham) was a perfect 6-0 at the foil.
Senior
Ashish Shah (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) put together another impressive day, winning 12 of his 15 bouts in the sabre. Sophomore
Mark Lessner (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Regis Jesuit) was right behind him, finishing with a an 11-4 record on the afternoon.
The Rangers will compete in their first home meet of the season next Sunday when they host Lafayette, Rutgers and Cornell in Baldwin Gym.
