MADISON, N.J. (Oct. 25, 2014) – The Drew University women's swimming and diving team posted four personal lifetime best times, but dropped its first dual meet of the 2014-15 season, 114-82, to King's (Pa.) College on Saturday afternoon at F.M. Kirby Pool.
Â
The freestyle sprinters shined in the season opener as freshmen
Jenny Stein and
Payton Hakes and junior
Kristin Zeigler placed first, third and fourth, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle event. Stein won her first career race with a time of 26.05. Stein's top 50-yard freestyle time came on Saturday as the final leg of the 200-yard medley relay, which saw Drew taking second place. Sophomore
Jordan Jessup placed first for nine team points in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:08.08.
Â
"We were right where we thought we would be in terms of our strengths," said head coach
Eric Scheingoltz. "We had four swimmers with lifetime bests in
Payton Hakes,
Jenny Stein,
Jordan Jessup and
Lindsay Pearce. Our sprinting power was phenomenal and that should continue to be a strength of ours."
Â
Jessup went on to win the 100-yard freestyle in a heart-stopping race after stopping the clock at 58.91, just one-hundredth of a second ahead of her King's competition.
Â
Sophomore
Lindsay Pearce made a triumphant return to the pool by winning the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.67. Sophomore
