SCRANTON, Pa. (Nov. 8, 2014) – Led by a blistering 400-yard medley relay team and two first place finishes by freshman
Jenny Stein, the Drew University women's swimming team dropped a dual meet by the score of 118-74 on Saturday afternoon at Marywood University in the first Landmark dual of the 2014-15 season.
The Rangers posted five first place finishes on Saturday, with the 400 medley relay leading off the day for the Drew women. The team of Stein, sophomore
Lindsay Pearce, junior
Kristin Zeigler and sophomore
Jordan Jessup combined for a 4:32.89, edging the Pacers by less than a second to claim 11 points. Stein led off with 1:09.82 backstroke leg before Pearce finished the breaststroke in 1:14.50, the fastest of the heat. Zeigler followed with a 1:10.56 in the butterfly, and Jessup capped the victory with a heat-best 57.91 in the freestyle.
Stein went on to finish the day a perfect 3-for-3 by winning her two individual events. The rookie touched the wall first by a mere one-hundredth of a second in the 50-yard freestyle, sprinting to a time of 26.72 and nine points for the Rangers. Stein then won the 100-yard freestyle with a 58.56 second finish.
Jessup and Pearce also tasted victory again after teaming up on the winning relay team to start the meet. Jessup was triumphant in the 100-yard backstroke with a time 1:08.44, while Pearce won first place in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:13.54.
The Drew men were paced by junior
Mike Smoliga, and sophomores
Peter Mari and
Bobby DeMarco. The Rangers fell to Marywood, 133-55, on the scoreboard.
Smoliga began his day with a third place finish in the 50-yard freestyle after a sprint of 24.10 seconds. Mari picked up another second place spot for the Rangers in the 100-yard breaststroke stopping the clock at 1:11.12. DeMarco was right on his tail, finishing third in 1:11.34.
The Rangers return to the water on Saturday, Nov. 15 for a home dual meet against Landmark Conference foe The Catholic University of America at 1:00 p.m. at the F.M. Kirby Pool.
