SELINSGROVE, Pa. (April 30, 2014) – The Drew University women's lacrosse team is the No. 3 seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament and will travel to second-seeded and defending champion Susquehanna University in the semifinals today at 5:30 p.m.
The Landmark all-time series between the teams is tied at five apiece. In the five times they have met in Selinsgrove, Susquehanna holds a 3-2 advantage. The game is also a rematch of the 2012 and 2013 semifinals when Susquehanna eliminated the Rangers from the postseason tournament.
When the two teams met earlier this season, Drew (10-5, 4-2 Landmark) mounted a late comeback, which fell just short as Susquehanna (10-4, 5-1) escaped with the 16-15 win at Ranger Stadium on March 29. The Crusaders jumped out to the 10-6 lead at halftime. The Rangers went on a five-goal run late in the second half to tie the game at 15, but Susquehanna's Michelle McGinniss scored the game-winner with 3:17 remaining. The Crusaders' Emma Ehler finished with seven goals and McGinniss added six. Drew's
Charlotte Brown tallied five for the Rangers.
The field of four teams mirrors that of the last two Landmark Conference Tournaments. This season marks the seventh straight appearance in the tournament for the Rangers, who join top-seeded The Catholic University of America (10-5, 6-0) as the only two teams to make the league playoffs every year of its seven-year history. It is the second consecutive playoff appearance for second-year head coach
Julia Steier.
The winner of tonight's semifinal will await the winner of the other semifinal matchup, which features No. 4 The University of Scranton at No. 1 Catholic. The championship will be played on Saturday, May 3 at the home of the highest remaining seed at a time to be determined after the championship matchup is set.
The Rangers are led offensively by a duo of Landmark-leading scoring threats. Junior midfielder
Krysta Cento sits atop the Landmark rankings in points with 91 on 47 goals and 44 assists, while junior
Nikki Kleiman is second in the conference in both goals and assists with 52 and 29, respectively. Kleiman has netted five game-winning goals this season and has controlled 52 draws in the circle.
Freshman midfielder

Brooke Gagliano has tallied 32 points (20 goals, 12 assists) and classmate
Jess Johnson adds 23 points (17 goals, six assists), 37 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers.
Brown, a freshman attacker with 15 goals, and fellow rookie attacker
Anna Fiorini (17 goals) have bolstered a potent Drew offense that has scored 13.8 goals per game.
On the other end of the field, the Rangers' defense has held opponents to 9.20 goals per contest and boasts a .740 clear percentage this season.
The backline is anchored by senior
Alexandra Mattiace, who compiled 32 ground balls and a team-high 22 caused turnovers in 2014.
Freshmen goalkeepers
