HOBOKEN, N.J. (Feb. 14, 2016) – The Drew University men's fencing team increased its season record to 13-15 with a 4-2 run through the Mid-Atlantic Fencing Association (MACFA) Groups A vs. B at Stevens Institute of Technology on Sunday.
The Rangers scored victories over The United States Military Academy (15-12), Hunter College (17-10), The College of New Jersey (21-6) and Yeshiva University (17-10). Drew dropped matches to New Jersey Institute of Technology (21-6) and the host school Stevens Institute of Technology (20-7).
The sabre squad led the way in the MACFA event behind a pair of freshmen in
Brian Heist and
Patrick Janitor. Heist compiled a 12-5 record against his sabre competition, while Janitor racked up 14 wins with just three losses throughout the day. Now with a season record of 47-23, Janitor will begin looking toward championship season and the upcoming MACFA (Feb. 28) and NCAA Regional (March 12) meets to close out a breakout rookie season.

Andrew Pidhorodeckyj is also making a case for Drew's top rookie as he improved his season record to 51-25 at Stevens. Thanks to a 14-3 record against MACFA Group B competition on Sunday, the freshman now leads the Rangers in wins for the 2015-16 campaign.
Keeping the theme of young stars at the forefront of the Rangers' success, freshman
Cameron Berger led the epee squad on Sunday with a record of 10-8. Berger is one of three Drew fencers – all freshmen – with over 40 wins. He heads into the homestretch of the 2015-16 season with a 40-38 record.
Head coach
Vincent Paragano and the Drew squad will travel to the Philadelphia Invitational at the University of Pennsylvania on Sunday, Feb. 21 in a makeup meet postponed from Jan. 23 due to the Blizzard of 2016.
