Rangers Fall at Ramapo In Regular Season Finale

MAHWAH, N.J. –
The Drew University men's and women's swimming & diving teams concluded the regular season with a dual meet at Ramapo on Saturday.  Despite four individual event wins, the Ranger women suffered a 152-109 loss to the Roadrunners.  Drew's men, meanwhile, dropped a 153.5-98.5 decision to Ramapo at the Adele and Reuben Thomas Pool.
 
Jamie Riffel (New Providence, N.J.) and Mal Vishwanath (Bangalore, India) each earned a pair of individual victories on the women's side.  Riffel took first in the 500 yard freestyle (5:38.76) and 1000 yard freestyle (11:38.32), while Vishwanath posted winning times of 1:01.02 in the 100 yard butterfly and 1:57.74 in the 200 yard freestyle.  Vishwanath was also second in the 100 yard freestyle (54.34).
 
That was one of eight second-place efforts by the women's squad.  Stephanie Cushman (Brick, N.J.) was second in three events (100 backstroke-1:02.01, 200 backstroke-2:14.94, 200 individual medley-2:22.39), and Audrey Keliehor (Wilton, Conn.) grabbed a pair of second-place finishes in the distance freestyle events, posting times of 5:46.27 in the 500 yard freestyle and 11:46.01 in the 1000 yard freestyle.  Meanwhile, Katie Jefferson (Kamuela, Hawaii) took second with a time of 2:23.18 in the 200 yard butterfly, and Jenny Stein's (Calabasas, Calif.) 26.22-second clocking was good for second place in the 50 yard freestyle.
 
On the men's side, Michael Ma (Redwood City, Calif.) won both of his individual events, posting times of 2:02.16 in the 200 individual medley and 2:02.31 in the 200 butterfly.  The Rangers also took first in the 200 yard freestyle relay, with the team of Alexandre Sannibale (South Pasadena, Calif.), Mack Fox (Randolph, N.J.), Garrett Pilikington (West Milford, N.J.) and Alex Longacre (Perkiomenville, Pa.) notching a 1:35.97 clocking.
 
Individually, Sannibale grabbed second place in both the 200 butterfly (2:06.50) and 500 freestyle (5:01.74), while Fox was second in the 1000 freestyle (10:17.80) and Longacre took second in the 200 individual medley (2:13.73).  Jack Mahoney (Erie, Pa.), meanwhile, recorded second-place showings in the 50 freestyle (22.87) and 200 freestyle (1:48.78).  In addition, Matheus Macena (Sao Paulo, Brazil) placed second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.28 seconds.
 
After a week off, Drew will head to Germantown, Md., for the Landmark Conference Championships from Feb. 16-18.  Both squads were picked to finish fourth, which would equal their showing last season, in the Landmark Preseason Poll.
