Vishwanath Finishes 15th In 1650 Freestyle at NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Mal Vishwanath (Bangalore, India) had the best placement ever for a member of the Drew University women's swimming & diving team at the NCAA Division III Championships when she took 15^th in the 1650 yard freestyle on Saturday at the IU Natatorium. With that showing, the Rangers earned a team score at the NCAA Championships for the first time since 1999. Vishwanath's two points officially put Drew in a tie for 48^th place in the team standings.

Seeded 17^th in the event, Vishwanath improved two places by posting a time of 17:12.63. It was her third swim of the week after previously finishing 22^nd in the 500 freestyle and 23^rd in the 200 freestyle.

Vishwanath is the first Drew swimmer to qualify for the NCAA Championships since Lauren Kenworthy in 1999. The Landmark Conference Swimmer of the Year, she set a conference record in the 200 freestyle (1:52.40) earlier in the meet.
