POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Junior 
Aiden Holmes recorded his 100th career victory in sabre as the Drew University men's fencing team continued its strong start in 2022-23, winning four of seven matches at the Vassar College Invitational on Sunday.
 
The Rangers (11-7) opened the day with a tight 15-12 loss to Vassar and an 18-9 setback to Johns Hopkins before rallying with win over Yeshiva (26-1), Denison (23-4), and Haverford (19-8). After a narrow 14-13 loss to Sacred heart, Drew closed out the day with a win over Lafayette (15-12).
 
For the day, Drew's epee squad led the way with a 6-1 showing. Juniors
 Lucas Alfaiate and 
Julio Arias fronted a unit that accumulated a 44-17 mark. Alfaiate went 14-4 to improve to 27-8 on the season while Arias finished 12-3, upping his record to 22-7. In addition, sophomore 
AJ Marchant posted a 7-5 record while junior 
Lorence Lukanyuk was 6-0.
In sabre, the Rangers finished 5-2. Holmes led the way with a 14-4 effort to raise his season record to a stellar 34-7 and his career mark to 100-37 (.730). Junior 
Michael Parkhurst also registered an impressive showing in sabre, finishing 13-5 while moving to 31-14 on the year. Junior 
Ethan Trent added an 9-6 performance for the Rangers while classmate 
Daniel Magda went 7-5, helping sabre finish 43-20 collectively.
 
The foil squad finished 2-5 and was paced by freshman 
Henri Degremont, who posted an 8-7 mark. Sophomore 
Aidan Montalbine and freshman 
Michael Niechwadowicz, each went 6-0.
 
The Rangers are back in action next Sunday, when they travel back to Vassar for the Lampell Invitational.
