MADISON, N.J. – Led by a perfect 4-0 day from its epee unit, the Drew University men's fencing team finished 2-2 at a Mid-Atlantic Fencing Association (MACFA) "A" round robin on Saturday in the Simon Forum.
The Rangers, who are now 28-17 on the season, defeated Cornell University 17-10 and Rowan University 24-3 but were edged by Lafayette College (14-13) and Rutgers University (15-12).
Twenty-five different Rangers saw action at the event, the team's last competition before the MACFA Championships on March 5 back in the Simon Forum.
Eight Rangers combined to go 20-10 in epee, which defeated Rutgers 5-4, Rowan 6-3, Cornell 9-0, and Lafayette 6-3. Junior
Lucas Alfaiate led the way with a 4-0 showing while freshman
William Morton (4-1) and sophomore
Danny Stevens (4-2) also picked up four wins apiece. Freshman
Eddie Matto added a 3-1 showing.
The foil team finished 2-2 on the day, including a 9-0 win over Rowan and a 5-4 triumph over Cornell. Junior
Michael DeSando paced Drew with a 7-1 performance while senior
Drew Laun finished 4-4. Freshman
Jacob Gresens contributed with a 3-1 showing.
Drew went 1-3 in sabre, including a 9-0 win over Rowan. Four different Rangers led the way with three wins each: junior
