MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University men's fencing team posted a strong performance at the Mid-Atlantic Fencing Association (MACFA) Championships on Sunday in the Simon Forum.

The Rangers placed fourth out 13 teams, finishing with 94 victories - just seven behind third-place Stevens, 12 behind runner-up NJIT, and 20 behind team champion Johns Hopkins.

Drew registered its top performance in foil, taking runner-up honors for the second year in a row. The Rangers also placed fourth in epee and sixth in sabre.

Junior foilist Michael DeSando posted Drew's top individual showing on the day, battling to the fifth-place medal in the direct elimination round. It was his second career MACFA medal after taking sixth last season.

Junior sabrist Aiden Holmes also played his way to a medal, capturing eighth place with his performance in individual play. Holmes also medaled for the second year in a row after taking seventh in 2022.

Along with DeSando and Holmes, two additional Rangers qualified for the individual portion of the event. Junior Lucas Alfaiate just missed a spot on the awards podium, placing ninth in epee, while freshman foilist Henri Degremont posted a 10th-place finish.

Drew will now compete at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional on Saturday at Lafayette College.
