MADISON, N.J. - The Drew University men's fencing team posted a strong performance at the Mid-Atlantic Fencing Association (MACFA) Championships on Sunday in the Simon Forum.
The Rangers placed fourth out 13 teams, finishing with 94 victories - just seven behind third-place Stevens, 12 behind runner-up NJIT, and 20 behind team champion Johns Hopkins.
Drew registered its top performance in foil, taking runner-up honors for the second year in a row. The Rangers also placed fourth in epee and sixth in sabre.
Junior foilist
Michael DeSando posted Drew's top individual showing on the day, battling to the fifth-place medal in the direct elimination round. It was his second career MACFA medal after taking sixth last season.
Junior sabrist
Aiden Holmes also played his way to a medal, capturing eighth place with his performance in individual play. Holmes also medaled for the second year in a row after taking seventh in 2022.
Along with DeSando and Holmes, two additional Rangers qualified for the individual portion of the event. Junior
Lucas Alfaiate just missed a spot on the awards podium, placing ninth in epee, while freshman foilist
Henri Degremont posted a 10th-place finish.
Drew will now compete at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional on Saturday at Lafayette College.
