MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's swimming & diving team celebrated Senior Day in style, downing the University of Scranton 171.5-128.5 to complete the program's first-ever undefeated dual-meet season.
The Rangers, who finished 5-0 on the season, honored their six seniors before the start of the meet. Drew's seven seniors on the women's team were also recognized.
Senior
Hayden Koh and freshman
Nicholas Heinio-Widell won three individual events apiece for the Rangers, who captured 11 of 16 events on the day. Koh touched first in the 100-backstroke (50.47), 100-butterfly (50.00), and 200-IM (1:57.02) while Heinio-Widell prevailed in the 200-freestyle (1:45.19), 50-freestyle (21.17), and the 100-freestyle (46.57).
Sophomore
Gabe Spivak was also a double-winner for the Rangers, taking first in the 100-breaststroke (59.35) and the 200-breaststroke (2:11.66).
Senior
Finn Armitt also contributed with an individual victory, claiming the 200-butterfly in 1:56.35.
Heinio-Widell led a 1-2-3 Drew sweep in the 100-freestyle, as sophomore
Brendan Burkett took second (47.45) and senior
Luke Stevens placed third (48.59).
Drew also finished 1-2 in four events, including the 200-freestyle, in which freshman
Kyle Talerico placed second in 1:46.62. Burkett also took second behind Heinio-Widell in the 50-freestyle, while Armitt tied for second behind Koh in the 100-butterfly. In addition, junior
Yan Zheng Lew placed second after Koh in the 200-IM (1:58.88).
Lew added two additional runner-up showings in the 1,000-freestyle (9:55.12) and 500-freestyle (4:48.00) while freshman
Nick Shaffer was second in the 200-backstroke (2:05.51).
In addition, the Rangers swept the relays. Koh, Heinio-Widell, Armitt, and Burkett captured the 200-medley in 1:32.99 while senior
Marco Niro, Burkett, Armitt, and Stevens closed out the meet with a triumph in the 200-freestyle relay (1:57.02).
Drew is now off until Feb. 15-18, when its competes at the Landmark Conference Championships, held at Mangione Aquatic Center at Loyola University in Baltimore.
