TOWSON, Md. – David Hoyt has been honored as the Landmark Conference Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's soccer, conference officials announced on Monday.

The Landmark Conference selects 23 senior scholar-athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, athletic communications directors, and diversity, ethnicity, and inclusion designees.

Hoyt is the third player in team history to earn the award and the first since Aidan Cserhat C'20 in 2019.

This past season, Hoyt rebounded from numerous setbacks (Covid pandemic, pulled hamstring, broken jaw) throughout this career to earn the starting goalie job in his fifth year at Drew. He started 18 of 19 games this past season, posting a 1.03 goals-against average a .743 save percentage to go with four shutouts. He made a career-high seven saves in a 2-1 win over Manhattanville and in a scoreless draw at Goucher, and he also posted clean sheets versus Western Connecticut (1-0), TCNJ (5-0), and DeSales (1-0).

For his career, the two-time team captain finished with a 1.09 GAA, a .737 save percentage, and five shutouts over 25 games and 2,060 minutes played. Hoyt also competed for the inaugural Drew men's volleyball team in 2022, playing in all 25 matches at setter and has continued to stay involved as a team manager.

Away from the pitch, Hoyt is a Biochemistry & Molecular Biology major with minors in Anthropology and Public Health and has garnered considerable recognition for his academic achievements throughout his career at The Forest. At last spring's DRESPY Awards, he was honored as a winner of the winner of the Sherman Plato Young Scholar Award, presented on the basis of character, scholarship, and extracurricular participation. A Drew University Action and Baldwin Scholar, he is a member of both TriBeta (Biology Honor Society) and Gamma Sigma Epsilon (Chemistry Honor Society). He has been named to Drew's Dean's List, the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll, and the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. In addition, he has received the Schering-Plough Scholarship through the Independent Colleges and Universities of New Jersey (ICFNJ), and he won Drew's Anna Barofsky Prize in Biology.

Hoyt has also been highly involved in the classroom and the community. He participated in the Cellular Bioengineering Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) at Rutgers University, has served as a writing fellow for three classes, and is currently a Writing Fellows Coordinator. In addition, he has participated in RISE, Drew's Research Institute for Scientists Emeriti, has served as a representative on Drew's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), and was a Drew "Launch" mentor for freshman students and an Empowerment in STEM mentor. He has performed additional volunteer work with Fair for Emerging Researchers, an 18-week research and mentorship program for middle-school students. And in the winter of 2024, Hoyt went on a trip to New Orleans to help plant trees to protect the Bayou.
