MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's swimming & diving team opened the 13th annual Ranger Invitational with a strong showing highlighted by a record-breaking performance in the 200-medley relay on Friday at F.M. Kirby Pool.

The quartet of senior Yan Zheng Lew, freshman Thiago Silva, sophomore Nicholas Heinio-Widell, and junior Brendan Burkett teamed up for a winning time of 1:31.15, lowering the previous school, meet, and Landmark Conference record of 1:31.64 set at the same event last year.

Drew nearly set another relay record in the final event of the night as well. In 400 medley, Lew, freshman Hunor Harsanyi, Heinio-Widell, and Silva clocked a winning time of 3:22.74, just 0.23 seconds shy of the meet record, 0.35 seconds off the school record, and 0.44 seconds short of the Landmark Conference standard. Silva closed out the relay with a 45.80 freestyle split.

The Rangers have won all nine events thus far and have piled up 196 points. FDU-Florham is in second place with 70 points while Moravian University is in third with 13 points.

Heinio-Widell added two individual victories as well, touching first in both the 50-freestyle (20.48) and 100-butterfly (49.43). His time in the 50 was a meet record.

Sophomore Liam Gregory posted a meet record of his own, clocking a winning time of 4:40.55 in the 500-freestyle. Classmate Kyle Talerico won the 200-IM in 1:57.62 while Lew prevailed in the 400-IM (4:12.41). In addition, Burkett claimed the 200-freestyle, touching first in 1:43.45.
