MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's swimming & diving team closed out the second and final day of the Ranger Invitational with a record-setting performance on Saturday at F.M. Kirby Pool.
The Rangers set four school records, five meet records, and one Landmark Conference while achieving one NCAA B-cut. For the meet, Drew posted five school records, eight meet records, and two Landmark Conference records.
Drew captured 17 of 18 events and won its eighth consecutive Ranger Invitational title with 362 points. FDU-Florham placed second with 131 points while Moravian University took third with 29 points.
Sophomore
Nicholas Heinio-Widell led the Rangers with a tremendous showing. In the open the 100-freestyle, he posted an NCAA B cut with a time of 44.60, shattering his own meet and school records while also nipping the nine-year-old Landmark Conference record of 44.63. Then in the 400-freestyle relay, he improved upon all of the aforementioned records in the leadoff leg, clocking a 44.51 – a mark that would rank him fifth in Division III entering the meet.

Thiago Silva, sophomore
Liam Gregory, and junior
Brendan Burkett followed Heinio-Widell to finish with a time of 3:04.05.
Also on Saturday, Silva closed out the morning session with a school and meet record in the 100-breaststroke, touching the wall in 55.98. Classmate
Hunor Harsanyi also established a Drew record, taking over three seconds off the former mark in winning the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:04.37, which was also a meet record.
Gregory lowered his own meet record in winning the 1,650-freestyle with a time of 16:15.94 – just 0.15 seconds shy of the Drew record as well. Gregory finished the meet with meet records in both the 500 and 1,650.
Sophomore
Kyle Talerico added a victory in the 200-butterfly (1:53.17) on Saturday, as did junior
Ricky Kilichowski in the 200-backstroke (2:02.93) and sophomore
Santiago Rubio Marrodan in the 1-meter diving (75.50).
Also posting one runner-up showing apiece were Killichowski in the 100-backstroke (55.43), Harsanyi in the 100-breaststroke (56.87), freshman
Issac Jeffers in the 1,650 (16:47.84), senior
Yan Zheng Lew in the 200-backstroke (1:58.17), and Burkett, whose time (45.50) in the 100-freestyle was just 0.30 seconds shy of Heinio-Widell's school record entering the day.
The Rangers will now take a 41-day break from competition before returning to Kirby Pool on Jan. 18, when they take on Goucher College.
