WALTHAM, Mass. – The Drew University men's fencing team took on some of the top competition in the nation at the Brandeis University Invitational on Sunday.

The Rangers faced three of the top eight-ranked teams in the U.S. Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) Division III poll – No. 3 Brandeis, No. 4 MIT, and No. 8 Lawrence – as well as Penn State, ranked No. 5 in the overall USFCA preseason poll, and Boston College.

Though Drew did not come away with a team victory, the foil squad did earn a 5-4 victory over Brandeis. In addition, several Rangers collected multiple individual wins.

In epee, freshman JP Emmert recorded four bout victories, including a 2-1 showing versus Lawrence. In addition, junior Eddie Matto went 2-1 against MIT.

Freshman Andrew Klyczek also registered four victories and posted a 2-1 mark versus both Brandeis and Lawrence. In addition, senior Aidan Montalbine was also 2-1 against Brandeis.

A first-year also collected the most victories for the Rangers in sabre, as Jason Ahlman notched three wins on the day, including a 2-1 effort versus Lawrence.

The Rangers are now off from competition until Jan. 26, when they travel to the Vassar College Lampell Invitational.
