Rice Takes Fourth at Misericordia for Women’s XC

DALLAS, Pa. – Junior Kate Rice placed fourth among 88 runners to lead the Drew University women's cross country team at the Misericordia Invitational Friday evening.
 
It was the collegiate cross country debut for Rice, who previously competed in soccer during the fall. This past spring, she was an all-region performer in the 5,000 meters for Drew's outdoor track & field team.
 
Rice clocked a time of 15 minutes, 27 seconds for the 4,000-meter course. She finished behind only three runners from Misericordia and was just 21 seconds off the winning pace set by Grace Gallagher.
 
As a team, the Rangers finished with a score of 102 to place fourth among eight teams. Misericordia won with a score of 26.
 
Sophomores Sarah Hattan and Skyler McGuire were Drew's second and third finishers, placing 20th and 24th, respectively in times of 16:53 and 17:11.
 
Freshman April Kusnier was next across the fine for the Rangers, taking 32nd in 17:38. Sophomore Caitlin Mulvey rounded out the team scoring, placing 34th in 17:40.
 
Five additional Rangers were action: junior Annelise Wade (42nd, 17:59), freshman Isabella Fortunato (43rd, 18:00), freshman Deborah Wang (55th, 18:28), and freshman Bella Polizzi (62nd, 18:45), and sophomore Ariana Vira (63rd, 18:58).
 
Drew picks up its schedule on Saturday, Sept. 7, when it travels to the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen Invitational, held at Union Canal Tunnel Park – the host of this year's Landmark Conference Championships – in Lebanon, Pa.
