GALLOWAY, N.J. – Junior
Kate Rice placed fifth among 180 runners, leading the Drew University women's cross country team came in eighth out 20 teams at the Stockton University Osprey Open on Saturday.
The meet was a preview of the NCAA Division III Metro Region Championships, which will be held on the same course on Nov. 16.
Rice was timed at 23 minutes flat for the 6,000-meter course and was the second Division III finisher in the field. Three of the competitors who placed ahead of her were from Division I Seton Hall University. Rice has now placed in the top-five in each of her first three career cross country races.
Drew's second finisher was freshman
April Kusnier, who came in 60th in 25:41. Sophomore
Skyler McGuire placed 70th in 26:04 while classmate
Caitlin Mulvey took 73rd in 26:14. Junior
Annelise Wade rounded out the team scoring, placing 79th in 26:21.
Also competing for the Rangers were sophomore
Sarah Hattan, who took 86th in 26:36; freshman
Deborah Wang, who placed 111th in 27:36; freshman
Isabella Fortunato, who came in 118th in 27:50; and sophomore
Ariana Vira, who was 130th in 28:44.
Drew continues its season next Saturday at the Penn State Abington Invitational, held at Lorimer Park in Abington, Pa. starting at 9 a.m.
