MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's and women's swimming & diving teams celebrated Senior Day in style, winning every event en route to a sweep of Goucher College on Saturday in F.M. Kirby Pool.
Prior to the start of the meet, Drew's six seniors –
Courtney Cushman,
Eliza Lockwood,
Katerina Poulathas,
Emilie Tobin, and
Sam Trodick of the women's team and
Yan Zheng Lew of the men's team – were honored in a special ceremony.
The women's team won by a score of 146-34 while the men's squad prevailed 153-28. Both teams improved to 2-2 with one dual meet left this season.
The seniors led the way for the women's team, as they accounted for seven of the team's nine individual victories. All four seniors who competed picked up at least one victory, with Trodick leading the way with wins in the 50-freestyle (26.71), 100-butterfly (1:06.84), and the 100-breaststroke (1:13.63) while Tobin touched first in both the 400-IM (4:58.21) and the 500-freestyle (5:36.58). Poulathas contributed a victory in the 1,000-freestyle (11:19.85) while Lockwood won the 200-freestyle (2:13.00).
Also posting one win apiece for the women's team were freshman
Ellis Murray in the 100-freestyle (56.53) and junior
Ece Onatca in the 100-backstroke (1:05.18).
In the relays, Murray, Trodick, Onatca, and junior
Kaitlyn Zayle teamed up to win the 200-medley relay (1:56.78) while Poulathas, freshman
Kyra Gorman, junior
Sarah Weber, and Tobin triumphed in 1:51.54.
Lew also enjoyed a victory on Senior Day, winning the 100-breaststroke in 1:04.35.
The men's team also received two victories apiece from junior
Brendan Burkett, freshman
Hunor Harsanyi, and sophomore
Nicholas Heinio-Widell. Burkett registered wins in both the 200-freestyle (1:48.40) and the 500-freestyle (5:02.68) while Harsanyi prevailed in both the 400-IM (4:23.93) and the 100-freestyle (50.78). Heinio-Widell captured the 50-freestyle (21.67) and the 100-backstroke (54.08).
Rounding out Drew's individual winners were freshman
Issac Jeffers in the 1,000-free (10:24.74) and freshman
Thiago Silva in the 100-butterfly (54.82).
In addition, Lew, Silva, Heinio-Widell, and Burkett teamed up to win the 200-medley relay while sophomore
Kyle Talerico, Harsanyi, Jeffers, and junior
Gabe Spivak captured the 200-free relay in 1:31.03.
The Rangers close out their dual-meet schedule next Saturday, when they visit the University of Scranton at 1 p.m.
