Men’s Swimming & Diving Captures Three Events at NYU Invite

NEW YORK – The Drew University men's swimming & diving team won three events while taking on some stellar competition at the NYU Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
 
The Rangers placed third while facing NYU, which placed second at last year's NCAA Division III Championships, and Stevens Institute of Technology.
 
Junior Nicholas Heinio-Widell led the way for the Rangers, winning both the 50-freestyle (21.44) and the 100-freestyle (47.05). He beat out 22 competitors in the 50 while placing in front of 24 other swimmers in the 100. In addition, he placed third out of 14 swimmers in the 100-butterfly (51.24).
 
Freshman Marcell Hudak also captured a victory, placing first in the 200-butterfly (1:55.44). He also took fifth out of 12 competitors in the 400-IM (4:17.44) and took ninth out of 25 swimmers in the 500-freestyle (4:56.12).
 
Several Rangers placed highly as well, including sophomore Hunor Harsanyi, who placed fifth out of 14 swimmers in the 200-breaststroke (2:11.74); senior Brendan Burkett, who took sixth in the 50 (21.58) and eighth in the 100-freestyle (47.89), junior Liam Gregory, who placed sixth in the 500 (4:52.12), senior Gabe Spivak, who took sixth in a field of 17 in the 100-breaststroke (59.74).
 
The Rangers also placed in front of Stevens in four of the five relays. The 200-freestyle squad of Heinio-Widell, Burkett, sophomore Thiago Silva, and junior Kyle Talerico placed third in 1:26.36 while the 200-medley squad of Silva, Spivak, Heinio-Widell, and Burkett also came in third in 1:35.53. The 400-freestyle contingent of Burkett, Heinio-Widell, Silva, and Gregory finished third in 3:12.79 while the 400-medley team of Burkett, Spivak, Heinio-Widell, and Silva took fourth in 3:32.83.
 
The Rangers continue their season on Friday, Nov. 21, when they host Montclair State University in a dual meet starting at 3:30 p.m.
