Men’s Track & Field Competes at Ocean Breeze, Southern Connecticut

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. and NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Drew University men's track & field team continued its indoor season on Friday and Saturday at a pair of meets.
 
The majority of the team competed at the Seahawk Shootout, hosted by Wagner College on Friday and held at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island. A pair of Rangers also competed at the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University. Both meets featured a mix of Division I, II, and III competition.
 
At Ocean Breeze, junior Tommy Edwards raced to a 20th-place finish out of 53 harriers. He recorded a personal record of 9:08.89 for the 15-lap event and was third among Division III finishers.
 
In the same event, sophomore Matt Ellis placed 30th in 9:30.57 while senior Dylan Crain took 33rd in 9:37.11.
 
Other top performance were posted by freshman Erick Hernandez, who took 43rd in a field of 63 in the 600-meter dash with a time of 1:28.73, and first-year Nathanrood Charles, who was 98th among 147 competitors in the 300-meter dash (38.12).
 
At Southern Connecticut, sophomore Owen Browne placed ninth out of 17 competitors in the pole vault, clearing 3.85 meters (12-7 1/2) on Friday, while junior Aidan Riccardo improved upon his own school record in the heptathlon, which spanned two days Friday and Saturday. He racked up 3,301 points, with his highest mark (674) coming in the 55-meter dash (674) with a time of 7.02 seconds. He also scored 540 points in the 1000-meter run (3:13.33), 528 points in the 55-meter hurdles (9.37), 488 points in the shot put (10.04 meters), 419 points in the high jump (1.54 meters), 388 points in the long jump (5.03 meters), and 264 points in the pole vault (2.60 meters).

Drew continues its indoor season on Friday, Jan. 9, when it returns to Ocean Breeze for the Spartan Invitational, hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College.
