NEW YORK – The Drew University men's track & field team continued the opening week of its third season as a varsity program on Saturday the TCNJ Indoor Opener, held at the Armory in New York City.
Taking on a mix of Division I, II, and III competition, the Rangers turned in a number of impressive showings.
Junior
Tommy Edwards posted the team's highest performance, placing second out of eight competitors with a time of 16 minutes, 6.93 seconds. He finished only five seconds behind Julian Laznik-Moraghan of Division I Iona.
Junior
Zach Mogambi added a pair of top-six performances for the Rangers. In the weight throw, he placed third among eight competitors and was the top Division III finisher with a heave of 14.72 meters (48-3 1/2). He also took sixth in a field of 11 in the shot put with a mark of 13.33 meters (43-8 3/4).
Sophomore
Matt Ellis contributed a fourth-place while taking on 15 competitors in the 1,000-meter run. The top Division III finisher, he clocked a school-record time of 2:43.22.
Sophomore
Owen Browne placed fifth in a field of seven in the pole vault (4.00 meters/13-1 1/2) while senior
Dylan Crain took seventh in a pair of events. He was timed at 1:32.85 in the 600-meter run and 2:54.47 in the 1,000.
In the 400-meter dash, freshmen
Nathanrood Charles and
Erick Hernandez each finished in the top half in a field of 28, with Charles placing 10th (53.54) and Hernandez coming in 14th (53.99).
Drew competes in its last meet of the semester on Friday at the Wagner College Seahawk Shootout, held at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
