Day 3 Results
BALTIMORE – The Drew University men's swimming & diving team captured four more gold medals, highlighting Day Three of the Landmark Conference Championships for the Rangers on Saturday at Loyola University's Mangione Aquatic Center.
The Rangers have now won nine events – four more than any other school.
Through 14 events, Drew has totaled 462 points, good for third place among nine teams. Catholic holds the lead with 615.5 points and is followed by Scranton (513.5), Drew, Elizabethtown (208), Susquehanna (171), Juniata (110), Wilkes (107), Goucher (95), and Lycoming (70).
Three Rangers came away with individual victories, highlighted by another record-breaking performance from sophomore
Nicholas Heinio-Widell. With a winning time of 48.15 seconds in the 100-butterfly, he broke Drew, Landmark Conference, and Landmark Conference championship meet records while also achieving his second NCAA B cut of the meet. All three records were previously held by former Ranger All-American
Hayden Koh C'24.
It was the second individual gold for Heinio-Widell, who also won the 200-IM with a school record on Friday.
Freshman
Thiago Silva and junior
Brendan Burkett also registered one individual victory apiece on Saturday. Silva earned his second gold of the meet, claiming the 100-breaststroke with a time of 56.29. Burkett recorded his first career individual Landmark Conference title with his victory in the 200-freestyle (1:43.61).
Drew also conquered the field in the 200-freestyle relay, as Heinio-Widell, sophomore
Kyle Talerico, sophomore
Liam Gregory, and Silva teamed up for a winning time of 1:24.32. The Rangers have now won all four relays thus far in the meet.
Seven additional Rangers advanced to the championship final on Saturday. Taking one bronze medal apiece were senior
Yan Zheng Lew in the 400-IM (4:10.62) and Talerico in the 100-butterfly (50.44) while freshman
Hunor Harsanyi (100-breaststroke, 57.28) and junior
Ricky Kilichowski (100-backstroke, 54.34) each finished fourth. Junior
Gabe Spivak added a fifth-place finish in the 100-breast (57.41) while Gregory came in sixth in the 200-free (1:44.92). Freshman
Issac Jeffers contributed a seventh-place showing in the 200-free (1:45.16).
In the consolation finals, sophomore
Nick Shaffer placed 10th in the 100-backstroke (55.08) while Kilichowski was 13th in the 100-butterfly (54.63). Freshman
Will Spreeman took 14th in the 100-free (1:50.29), and sophomore
Juan Ortiz came in 16th in the 400-IM (4:55.45).
The fourth and final day of the meet will be held on Sunday, with prelims starting at 10 a.m. and finals beginning at 5 p.m.
