COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Freshman
Owen Browne placed third in the pole vault to lead the Drew University men's and women's track & field teams at the Frank Colden Invitational, hosted by Ursinus College on Saturday.
Browne beat out all but two of his 22 competitors in the event, clearing 4.10 meters (13-5 1/4).
Sophomores
Thomas Edwards and
Zach Mogambi turned in one sixth-place finish apiece for the Rangers. Racing in a field of 33 total competitors, Edwards was timed at 9:09.78 in the 3,000-meter run while Mogambi, taking on 50 opponents, heaved the shot put 13.62 meters (44-8 1/4).
Mogambi also placed 12th out of 32 competitors in the weight throw with a toss of 12.95 meters (42-6) while freshman
Matt Ellis came in 10th in the 3,000 (9:21.43).
Others who placed in the top half of their field were junior
Dylan Crain in the 3K (14th, 9:44.73), freshman
Olamilekan Olayiwola in the 400-meter dash (14th of 39, 54.23), and senior
Mike Borrelli in the shot put (25th, 10.24m).
In addition, sophomore
Aidan Riccardo became the first member of the Drew men's track & field team to complete a multi event, finishing seventh among 10 competitors in the pentathlon with a score of 2,187 points. He scored the highest in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.86 seconds, good for 568 points.
The Rangers competed in one final meet before the Landmark Conference Championship when they travel to the Widener University Feb. 14-15.
