Owen Browne and sophomore
Zach Mogambi won one gold medal apiece for the Drew University men's track & field team at the Landmark Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday at Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.
In the team standings, the Rangers – competing in their second year as a varsity program – took sixth out of eight teams.
Browne was honored as the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year following a tremendous performance in the pole vault. He cleared 4.58 meters (15- 1/4), improving upon his own school record.
Mogambi captured his first conference title with a heave of 14.82 meters (48-7 1/2) in the weight throw – nearly a foot better than his nearest competitor. He also took sixth in a field of 24 in the shot put with a launch of 13.32 meters (43-8 1/2).
Sophomore
Adian Hanson garnered two bronze medals for the Rangers (one relay, one individual. Individually, he picked up the bronze in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.77 seconds. In addition, Hanson led off for men's 4x200-meter relay team that also also included Olayiwola, sophomore
Aidan Riccardo, and sophomore
Jeff Ayeh-Datey.
Hanson just missed a third medal, taking fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.01. He lowered his own school record in prelims with a time of 6.97.
Sophomore
Carl Adolphe and Ayeh-Datey also registered points for the team score with their top-eight finishes. Adolphe took seventh among 23 competitors in the weight throw (12.68m, 41-7 1/4) while Ayeh-Datey came in eighth in the 60 (7.08).
The Rangers also set a school record in the distance medley relay, as freshman
Matt Ellis, Olayiwola, junior
Dylan Crain, and sophomore
Thomas Edwards cruised to a time of 10:47.69.
Ellis also placed 10th out of 23 runners in the mile (4:36.88) while Edwards came was also 10th among 23 competitors in the 3,000-meter run (9:15.71).
Several Rangers will continue their seasons next Saturday at the Tufts National Qualifying Meet.
