MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's fencing team placed seventh among 13 schools at the Mid-Atlantic Conference Fencing Association (MACFA) Championships on Sunday in the Simon Forum.
The Rangers finished the day sixth in both foil and sabre and eighth in epee.
A trio of Rangers qualified for the individual direct-elimination portion of the meet by virtue of their performances in the team competition, and juniors
Henri Degremont and
Will Morton each finished 11th.
The No. 8 seed in foil, Degremont was making his third consecutive appearance in the individual play. He took on No. 9 Josh Schaefer of NJIT in the opening round and Schaefer captured a close 15-12 decision. Meanwhile, Morton entered as the No. 12 seed in epee and was edged by an identical score to No. 5 Ummi Green of NJIT.
Sophomore
Logan Kleva added a 12th-place finish in sabre. He also earned the No. 12 seed and lost by a 15-5 count to Nikita Kogan of Lafayette in his first-round bout.
The Rangers will now compete in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional on Saturday back in Drew's Simon Forum.
