BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomore
Zach Mogambi won the discus with a tremendous throw of 50.26 meters (164-11) to lead the Drew University men's track & field team at Lehigh University's Carol and John Covert Classic on Saturday.
Competing in a field heavy with Division I competition, Mogambi won the event by over seven feet over runner-up Liam Lovering of Lehigh. Mogambi's throw was over three meters and more than 10 feet better than his previous school and Landmark Conference record set just eight days ago at Moravian's Coach Pollard Invitational, and it places him 18th on the current Division III performance list.
Mogambi also placed 10th among 34 competitors in the shot put with heave of 13.70 meters (44-11 1/2).
Sophomores
Jeff Ayeh-Datey and
Adian Hanson also turned in solid performances in a pair of sprinting events. In the 100-meter dash, Ayeh-Datey placed fifth among 31 competitors with a time of 11.12 seconds while Hanson took sixth with an identical time. They were the top two Division III competitors in the event.
In the 200 meters, Hanson placed eighth in a field of 34, clocking a 22.54, while Ayeh-Datey took 10th in 22.67.
In addition, sophomore
Thomas Edwards placed 13th in a field of 37 in the 1,500-meter run, lowering his own school record to 4:10.42, while freshman
Owen Browne came in seventh in the pole vault while improving his Drew outdoor record to 4.12 meters (13-6 1/4).
The Rangers return to action May 3-4 at the Landmark Conference Championships, hosted by Susquehanna University.
