2024-25 USFCA Collegiate Award Winners

MADISON, N.J. – Following a tremendous freshman campaign, Filiz Erdogan of the Drew University women's fencing team has been honored by the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) as the Division III Women's Foil Newcomer of the Year.

Representing programs across all genders and divisions, the USFCA presents both national collegiate awards and Division III awards. All awards were determined by a nationwide vote of USFCA-member fencing programs.

Erdogan accumulated an impressive record of 74-42 record in her debut season at The Forest this past year. She not only posted the team's best foil record, but she also recorded the most wins of any Drew women's fencer in 2024-25. She earned the sixth-place medal at the National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association (NIWFA) Championships, where she topped fencers from Division I squads such as NJIT and Temple. By virtue of placing between fifth and eighth place, she earned Second Team All-NIWFA honors.

In addition, Erdogan qualified for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Region Championships, where she faced some of the top foil competition in all of college fencing and finished in 29th place. She posted a 3-3 record and advanced to the second round of competition while defeating fencers from North Carolina, Lafayette, and Johns Hopkins.

For the season, Erdogan helped lead the Rangers to a 24-18 record and a fourth-place finish among 15 teams at the NIWFA Championships.
