USILA Division III All-America Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following a tremendous debut season at The Forest, freshman face-off specialist Jake Rainero of the Drew University men's lacrosse team has earned a spot on the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III All-American Team, it was announced on Thursday.

Rainero, who garnered honorable mention status, becomes the seventh All-American in program history and the first since midfielder/FOGO Sean McGowan C'12 was also an honorable mention in 2012.

Earlier in the postseason, Rainero also was named to the All-Landmark Conference First Team as well as the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year. He posted a tremendous showing at the X this season, where he won an incredible 74.8 (305-for-408) of his attempts while picking up 209 ground balls. In addition, he contributed 11 points on six goals and five assists. Among the Division III leaders, he finished third in both faceoffs won and faceoff winning percentage as well as ground balls per game (12.29). He was a four-time Landmark Conference Offensive Athlete of the Week pick, and he was also a three-time selection to the USILA Division III Team of the Week.

Rainero posted his most impressive performance in the team's regular-season finale in a Landmark Conference victory at Juniata, finishing 31-for-35 on faceoffs while picking up an NCAA Division III-record-tying 31 ground balls. He also won 20 or more faceoffs in four additional games, including a perfect 20-for-20 showing in a victory at Wilkes in which he became just the 30th player in NCAA Division III history to win at least 20 faceoffs without a loss. For the year, Rainero set Drew single-season records for face-off winning percentage, face-offs won, and ground balls and Landmark Conference records for both faceoffs won and ground balls.

Rainero's record-breaking efforts helped the Rangers finish 10-7 overall and 6-3 in the Landmark Conference this past season. Not only did the squad capture a spot in the Landmark Conference Championship tournament for the second year in a row, but it also earned its first postseason home game since 2012. In addition, the team posted its highest conference victory total since 2007.
