SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Sophomore
Zach Mogambi won the gold medal in the discus to lead the Drew University men's track & field team on the second and final day of the Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships on Sunday at Susquehanna University.
As a team, the Rangers scored 24 points to place seventh among eight teams. They finished in front of Goucher College (13) while Susquehanna claimed the team title with 241 points.
Mogambi finished with a launch of 48.87 meters, or 160 feet, 4 inches. He won the event by over seven feet and shattered the former meet record of 45.58 meters (149-6) set by Jon Anthony of Moravian in 2019. Though he did not exceed his own school and Landmark Conference record of 50.26 meters, he currently ranks 25th in Division III in the event.
It was the second career conference title for Mogambi, who also won the weight at the Landmark Conference Indoor Championships this past winter.
Two other Rangers earned team points for the Rangers by finishing among the top-eight in their event. Sophomore
Jeff Ayeh-Datey placed seventh in the final of the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.09 seconds, and classmate
Thomas Edwards placed eighth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:38.13, a personal-record by 17 seconds.
Several Rangers will continue their season on Friday at the Ramapo Twilight Last Chance Meet.
